​Hello and Happy New Year,

Thank You for a Wonderful Year! Through 2021 we received so much support through our St Joseph Mission School community. We're filled with gratitude for everyone who has volunteered or worked with us, donated to a campaign, and spread the word about our school. An outstanding "thank you" to our St Joseph parents, who partner alongside the school in their students' education! 

In reflecting on the past year - our staff gathered before our school's Christmas break to share gratitude for the ways in which the team has been there for one another. It was a moving time of prayer, which expressed how significant all our efforts are in supporting one another and in supporting the students. 

In this January Newsletter we want to share some of our student's academic achievements, how our school celebrated the Christmas season, along with introducing some new staff which joined the team in the 2021-2022 school year.

​We are very excited to announce that four of our students will be competing in the New Mexico District Spelling Bee competition! Congratulations to David (5th grade), Isabella (6th grade), Dalonte (5th grade), and Synclair (6th grade). Great work to all our students for the hard work they put towards the school's competition; we look forward to cheering on the contestant that have moved forward in the District competition on Jan 26th, 2022. 

Our 4 final contestants moving forward to the NM District Spelling Bee competition. Thank you to our judges and pronouncer who joined us for the event!

The SJMS staff were able to safely deliver 33 food baskets and stockings to families in our local villages

You can enjoy the Christmas program through our school's new YouTube channel.

​For our Christmas season we were very grateful to have continued on with our community service outreach through the generous donation by the SouthWest Indian Foundation. Before Christmas break, the St. Joseph Mission School staff spent a day delivering Christmas baskets throughout the local villages, encountering each family in celebrating the coming of Christmas, with all its worldly stresses but heavenly blessings.
  
As a school, we enjoyed preparing for this year's school Christmas program with the students practicing their traditional dances and Christmas carols. Our Christmas program was able to be livestreamed with help from the local production company, No Reservations, so as to reach the homes of many across the country. Many blessings from our community to you and yours!

We are happy to introduce the new members to our St. Joseph Mission School team: 

Tonya Louis, joined December 2021. Resident of Acoma, and SJMS parent. She serves as the interim Pre-k Director.

Stacy Martin, joined September 2021. Born and raised in Mesita, a resident of Acoma, and SJMS parent. He serves as the Office Manager.

Francilia Leon, joined August 2021. Resident of Acoma, and SJMS alumna. She serves as the Cafeteria Manager.

Hannah Johns, joined July 2021. Recently moved to community. She serves as the Administrative Assistant and STEM teacher.

Averylyn Joe, joined October 2021. Resident of Acoma. She serves as the Teacher's Assistant for the K,1st and 2nd grade class.

Patricia Chambers-Pena, joined September 2021. Resident of Grants. She serves as the School Bookkeeper.

CC McCullough, joined August 2021. Recently moved to the community. She serves as a volunteer in the Front Office.

We are happy to highlight a very special member of our St. Joseph Mission School family - Gubbio! He has been a member of the School family for 7 years and he visits the school regularly. He is welcomed by the students and staff at St. Joseph, and he can be found accompanying our Principal, Mr. Trujillo, around campus and around his office. Gubbio is a great ambassador to our school and is often greeting guests and sniffing for treats.  ​
