ADVISORY BOARD
The Advisory Board at St Joseph Mission School acts in an advisory capacity, drawing on their collective experience in nonprofit leadership, accounting, education policy, and Catholic advocacy to help guide our work and ensure we are building a strong foundation.
Father Matthew Keller serves as our Pastor
Tony Helton serves as our Board Chair

Tony resides in Edgewood, KY. He and his wife Kym have 4 grown children. He is the Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky. Tony serves on the board of St. Claire Healthcare, Morehead, KY and the Alliance for Catholic Urban Education (A.C.U.E.) for the Diocese of Covington. He is also the past chair of the Board of the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home – DCCH Center for Children and Families.

Brian Vallo serves as our Board Vice Chair
|
Brian has over 30 years of working with tribal communities on issues of historic preservation, tourism, NAGPRA and museum development, and recently was the Pueblo Governor of Acoma. Governor Vallo was Founding Director of Acoma’s Haakú Museum and was Director of Historic Preservation at Acoma. He is currently consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Field Museum and DeYoung Museum. Brian attended New Mexico State University where he studied Business Administration and Marketing, and later studied Anthropology at the University of New Mexico.

Edith Steele serves as our Board Secretary

Edith is an alumna of St. Joseph Mission School. She has a true passion for St. Joseph’s School. This is demonstrated when sending her two children to St. Joseph. After attending St. Joseph she would serve as the school’s bookkeeper, development director and assistant to the Principal. She is a member of Our Lady of Light Church in Cubero, New Mexico.

Beverly Tafoya serves as our Board Member

Beverly is the past President and a current Board Member for St Joseph Mission School. She has a bachelor’s degree in Early childhood Education. Beverly is the owner and Director of Toddler Learning and Childcare Center for 30 years. She has sat on several Educational Boards throughout her career. Currently she resides in San Fidel, NM home of St Josephs Mission School as an active community member, "I am committed to quality education which is what St Josephs School provides. As a committed Community Member and Present Board Member my goal is to assist and further the mission of St Josephs Mission School."

Bernadette Montoya serves as our Board Member

Bernadette is an accomplished educator with a career in both public and higher education spanning over 28 years. A native New Mexican, Bernadette continues to share her passion for developing leadership skills and talents in others. In addition to her formal education, Bernadette is certified in Change Intelligence and Appreciative Inquiry. Bernadette has been an active member of numerous boards, professional, philanthropic and civic organizations at both local and national levels. She is a frequent presenter, panelist and keynote speaker. In addition to being a musician, her other interests include cooking, reading, writing and teaching Yoga.

Bob Hubbard serves as our Board Member

Bob Hubbard with his wife Kathy of 48 years are owners of Hubbard Family Swim Schools and Sports Camps in Phoenix, AZ. They have a large family of 8 children and 20 grandchildren. Bob received his Bachelors degree from Xavier University and is graduate of the University of Cincinnati Law School. Bob has donated his time as a volunteer charity auctioneer for the past 33 years including auctioneer for St. Joseph’s Gala Under the Stars. He is an avid music lover. He and Kathy are members of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Phoenix where Bishop Wall was once their Pastor.

Jane Egan serves as our Board Member

Jane Egan is from Brockton, Massachusetts. She received her BA degree in Art History from Smith’s College and her MA degree from Columbia University. Jane has lived in Santa Fe for more than 20 years where she has worked for the Santa Fe Community Foundation and now is the assistant to the Secretary of Cultural Affairs for the State of New Mexico. She is a member of Guadalupe Parish in Santa Fe, NM.

The Advisory Board meets quarterly, August through June online. Meetings are open to school families. To have an item placed on the agenda for discussion, please contact the school office at 505-552-6362 at least 7 days prior to the meeting.
