Dorothy Thomas

1st, 2nd, & 3rd Grade

Dorothy Thomas has been an educator for more than 43 years.  She is a Laguna Tribal member from the Village of Paguate, NM. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from Northern Arizona University.  She taught at Laguna Elementary School, retiring from the BIA in 2003 and taught 10 more years for the Tribal School.  Dorothy is certified by the State of New Mexico.  Math and Gifted and Talented are special interests. Her hobbies include reading, sewing and arts and crafts.  She has been involved with the Maler-Lockheed teacher program for 3 years; the Master Teacher program (MST-Math, Science, Technology) at Santa Fe Indian School; AISES (American Indian Science & Engineering Society) for many years; and, the SACNES (Sandia Lab sponsored: Society for Advancing of Chicano, Native American in Engineering & Science) for 3 years. Her hobbies include reading, sewing and arts and crafts.  She has taught summer religious education classes in Paguate. Dorothy states that St. Joseph School is a very spiritual place where students are courteous and very willing to learn.
